Florence and the machine concert

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

Yesterday I went to Parkteateret to see Florence and the machine again. I was hoping that the small stage indoors would significantly make it a better performance than at Øya. I wasn’t wrong. It didn’t hurt matters that the audience knew better what they were coming for either.

To sum things up, it was a great concert. It was pretty much the same songs as on Øya, but they now had an acoustic part which was really great. Her voice is just in a league of itself.

Well, as I’m busy enough not to post very often – here is a bunch of new music!

Well, maybe I wasn’t all gone, but still. Time to start the Autumn blogging! Lets start with a fun little movie! :)

Thursday Shuffle

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

I’ve been prioritizing differently lately, and probably will do for some time. But here’s the week’s shuffle!

Jong Pang – Small Cut Sensations.
This song has grown more and more on me.

Aqualung – Outside
I still love this song, even after having played it to death several times.

Bishop Allen – The Ancient Commonsense of Things
Seems we are in for a Indie Shuffle…

Arizona – The Glowing Bird (America)
Indeed. I don’t know this band very well (yet), but the song is great.

Mighty Mike – Massive Fear V2
Yey, not a indie song. Mashup between Massive Attack and Lily Allen!

I’m thinking of writing about the program for Øya, but it’s so massive! :)

Oslo Live Festival – Saturday!

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

Tomorrow is the last day of Oslo Live Festival. And here is the program:

Hovedscene:

Santigold (US) 21:45:
She was formerly known as Santogold if you are confused. She released her album Santogold last year. I wasn’t sure which of her songs to post, so I went with the singels and one remix. That she is loved by remixers is beyond any doubt.

Santogold – L.E.S. Artistes

Santogold – L.E.S. Artistes (xxxchange remix)

Santogold – Lights Out

Santogold – Say Aha

Paperboys (NO) 19:00:

Paperboys is a Norwegian Hip-Hop duo who’s been around for around 10 years (and that’s not counting the years before when they had different names). They have some big hits like Barcelona(with perhaps now more famous Madcon) and One Day.

Azania 3000 – Sweat.x & Gazelle (RSA) 17:30:

The Oslo Live stated it simple:
“AZANIA 3000 is a exciting collaboration between Sweat.x and GAZELLE. We had never heard about them, and neither have you probably. Anyway, we gave them a chance and listened to them on MySpace and YouTube. We were blown away! Here we found Africas answer to Slick Rick and Kid Cudi. It’s a great pleasure for us to not only introduce bands from traditional music nations like USA, UK and Sweden, but now also the rural areas of South Africa.”

What else to say? Check out Sweat.x and GAZELLE’s MySpace pages!

Gazelle – Die Verlore Seun from xander ferreira on Vimeo.

Name (NO) 16:00:

Name is Jørgen Johansen, a DJ with some success in Norway. He’s perhaps most famous for his single Hand Me Down.

Vulkan Oslo (Kontraskjæret):

Diplo (US) 20:45

This is definitly the performance of the night, at least for me! But it starts too early! Oh well, it will probably work out just fine.
DJ Diplo does hopefully need no introduction to most music lovers. This man is responsible for so much good music that we should all just thank him. ;)
If you want to be impressed, just take a look at his Wiki Page.

Santogold – I’m A Lady (Diplo Mix Ft Amanda Blank)

If you feel this one sounds strangely familiar… Remember an episode of Grey’s Anatomy where Christina is shakin’ it in the morning? This is it.
Diplo – Diplo Rhythm

Justin Timberlake – My Love – Diplo remix

Boy 8-Bit (UK) 20:00:
N/A

Mapei (SE) 18:15:
N/A

Organismen (SE) 16:45:

Jaa9 & OnklP 15:00:

Need to stop now, my machine hates the warmth and shuts down. :(

Tuesday Shuffle!

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

Ok, so I’m not so good at posting that often for the time being, but I blame it on Summer! That means I need some structure to be able to post at all, because I really don’t want to stay inside writing about music. But I can post songs! So, inspired by what’s apparently a Facebook thing, Tuesday Shuffle is that I post the five first random songs from my iPod, excluding whatever I have posted before.

Next up I’ll try to post about Oslo Live program for Saturday where amongst other Diplo and Santigold will be.

1.
Coldplay – Glass of Water (live from Left, Right, Left, Right, Left)
2.
Peter, Bjorn and John – It Dont Move Me
3.
Delirium – Silence (Niels van Gogh & Thomas Gold Remix)
(This is actually a very rare remix that was hard to find)
4.
Jump, Little Children – Cathedrals
5.
Hayden – Lullaby

Pleasant surprises

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

As it was sort of a plan to be on vacation at this time, I never got around to buying tickets to Norwegian Wood and just wanted to pretend it wasn’t there.
However, by some insane random chance of luck, I suddenly found myself at the Nick Cave concert, even for free. I think perhaps we lost some of the first songs, but I didn’t mind. Even just half the concert and I would still be happy.

But today’s music will not be Nick Cave. ;)

Rose Elinor Dougall is perhaps better known as part of the Pipettes, but has been focusing on a solo career for some time now. This song was the first song on her MySpace page last Summer, and was just now rereleased on vinyl.

Rose Elinor Dougall – Start Stop Synchro

Old School Freight Train is a band I’m not to familiar with, and when I heard the first seconds of this song I was positive that I was listening to a cover of Radiohead’s Paranoid Android. But noes…

Old School Freight Train – Let Me Go

Bertie Blackman is an Australian singer and songwriter, and I had never heard of her, but then I stumbled over her new album Secret and Lies, released in May. This song is the one I believe is the first single. You can find four remixes of it on MySpace(The duosseudo mix is quite good).

Bertie Blackman – Thump

Sorry I’m Late

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

I think that is a phrase I probably have said too many times. I must admit that I have never had a story this good as an excuse. Remarkable video!

Today’s music:

White Rabbits is an american indie band, formed when the members attended Univeristy of Missouri. Their first album came out in 2007, and their latest came out in May. This song is the first track from It’s Frightening:

White Rabbits – Percussion Gun

Also, I’ve been a fan of La Blogotheque for long, and this Patrick Watson appearance makes me want to move to Paris.

Holy…! (Grizzly Bear + Feist = <3)

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

This is a store downtown Oslo. Will probably give conservative Americans a heart attack. They sell mainly clothes I think, and their image is linked with skateboarding (again I think, didn’t check).

As for today’s music, it’s not new at all, but I love this song. The song just reaches to the sky with its beautiful harmonics. Taken from the fantastic Dark Was The Night album. Don’t think there exists a video(it should!), but there is a concert recording on YouTube, which also includes a version of Two Weeks. So looking forward to the Grizzly Bear concert in August!

Here’s the song:
Grizzly Bear & Feist – Service Bell

14 – Service Bell.mp3

And here’s the video:

From the same album comes Sufjan Steven’s You Are The Blood. There are days when I love this, and then there are days when I can’t stand it. A song that is mood-dependent, but that is usually a good thing.

Sufjan Steven – You Are the Blood
