Florence and the machine concert

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

Yesterday I went to Parkteateret to see Florence and the machine again. I was hoping that the small stage indoors would significantly make it a better performance than at Øya. I wasn’t wrong. It didn’t hurt matters that the audience knew better what they were coming for either.

To sum things up, it was a great concert. It was pretty much the same songs as on Øya, but they now had an acoustic part which was really great. Her voice is just in a league of itself.

Well, as I’m busy enough not to post very often – here is a bunch of new music!

Electronica:

Chromeo – Night By Night

Mimo – Running Out (Fenech Soler remix)

Coeur de Pirate – Comme Des Enfants (Le Matos Andy Carmichael Remix)

Loving it!!!

MSTRKRFT ft John Legend – Heartbreaker

Oslo Live Festival – Saturday!

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

Tomorrow is the last day of Oslo Live Festival. And here is the program:

Hovedscene:

Santigold (US) 21:45:
She was formerly known as Santogold if you are confused. She released her album Santogold last year. I wasn’t sure which of her songs to post, so I went with the singels and one remix. That she is loved by remixers is beyond any doubt.

Santogold – L.E.S. Artistes

Santogold – L.E.S. Artistes (xxxchange remix)

Santogold – Lights Out

Santogold – Say Aha

Paperboys (NO) 19:00:

Paperboys is a Norwegian Hip-Hop duo who’s been around for around 10 years (and that’s not counting the years before when they had different names). They have some big hits like Barcelona(with perhaps now more famous Madcon) and One Day.

Azania 3000 – Sweat.x & Gazelle (RSA) 17:30:

The Oslo Live stated it simple:
“AZANIA 3000 is a exciting collaboration between Sweat.x and GAZELLE. We had never heard about them, and neither have you probably. Anyway, we gave them a chance and listened to them on MySpace and YouTube. We were blown away! Here we found Africas answer to Slick Rick and Kid Cudi. It’s a great pleasure for us to not only introduce bands from traditional music nations like USA, UK and Sweden, but now also the rural areas of South Africa.”

What else to say? Check out Sweat.x and GAZELLE’s MySpace pages!

Gazelle – Die Verlore Seun from xander ferreira on Vimeo.

Name (NO) 16:00:

Name is Jørgen Johansen, a DJ with some success in Norway. He’s perhaps most famous for his single Hand Me Down.

Vulkan Oslo (Kontraskjæret):

Diplo (US) 20:45

This is definitly the performance of the night, at least for me! But it starts too early! Oh well, it will probably work out just fine.
DJ Diplo does hopefully need no introduction to most music lovers. This man is responsible for so much good music that we should all just thank him. ;)
If you want to be impressed, just take a look at his Wiki Page.

Santogold – I’m A Lady (Diplo Mix Ft Amanda Blank)

If you feel this one sounds strangely familiar… Remember an episode of Grey’s Anatomy where Christina is shakin’ it in the morning? This is it.
Diplo – Diplo Rhythm

Justin Timberlake – My Love – Diplo remix

Boy 8-Bit (UK) 20:00:
N/A

Mapei (SE) 18:15:

Organismen (SE) 16:45:

Jaa9 & OnklP 15:00:

Need to stop now, my machine hates the warmth and shuts down. :(

Tuesday Shuffle!

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

Ok, so I’m not so good at posting that often for the time being, but I blame it on Summer! That means I need some structure to be able to post at all, because I really don’t want to stay inside writing about music. But I can post songs! So, inspired by what’s apparently a Facebook thing, Tuesday Shuffle is that I post the five first random songs from my iPod, excluding whatever I have posted before.

Next up I’ll try to post about Oslo Live program for Saturday where amongst other Diplo and Santigold will be.

1.
Coldplay – Glass of Water (live from Left, Right, Left, Right, Left)
2.
Peter, Bjorn and John – It Dont Move Me
3.
Delirium – Silence (Niels van Gogh & Thomas Gold Remix)
(This is actually a very rare remix that was hard to find)
4.
Jump, Little Children – Cathedrals
5.
Hayden – Lullaby

Oslo Live Festival 1st of July

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

Oslo Live Festival is just around the corner, running from 1st to 4th of July. I’ve already bought tickets for Wednesday and Saturday, and might pickup some tickets for the other days as well.

Who’s coming? I must say I am rather impressed with the artists they have managed to get! These are names I was hoping to see at Øyafestivalen, but this will also do!

Hovedscene (Mainstage):

2manydjs (BE) : 21:45

Behind this name hides two brothers from Belgium named David and Stephen Dewaele. They also are half of the perhaps just as well or more known group Soulwax. They produce, remix, create music within the genre of mainly electronica/alternative rock.

Here are some songs from them:

2ManyDjs – PrinceVsJamesBrown-SexyKissMachine

2ManyDjs – TheMagnificentRomeo

2ManyDjs – TheStooges&SaltnPepa-Nofun&pushit

Klaxons (UK) : 20:00

Klaxons does hopefully not need much introduction. Coming from England, they make wonderful rock with psychedelic influences. They debut album from 2007, Myth of the Near Future, won much international critical acclaim, amongst other it won as Best Album both at the NME Awards and the American NME awards. I don’t know how much I’ve heard it, but with remixes, we are talking days of continuous listening. Here are the most famous tracks from the album:

Klaxons – As Above, So Below

Klaxons – Golden Skans

Klaxons – It’s Not Over Yet

Does It Offend You, Yeah!? (UK) : 18:30

If you use last.fm or Hypem, you’re bound to have heard about this band. Also from England, these guys make electronic rock. The name is a random quote from The Office apparently, with not that much thought into it. They have released one album, with the next around the corner. Here are two of my favorite songs from the album You Have No Idea What You’re Getting Yourself Into:

DIOYY?! – We Are Rockstars.mp3

DIOYY?! – Does It Offend You, Yeah – Epic Last Song

Update

And then I have updated the post. Spent the evening with a friend who wanted us to go pirating for The Killers concert tickets. I saw treasure, but there were too many sharks, and although I like them(the band, not the sharks), they are not one of the bands that I would do anything to see, including paying 3x the fee. So instead it was pizza, beers and nostalgia in the form of old electronic arcade machines!

But onwards with the music!

Karin Park (NO) : 17:00
I can’t admit to have listened much to Karin Park, but I instantly liked a track from her new(or coming?) album which was played on Norwegian TV in a very stripped down version. I have her album from 2006, and I really don’t think there’s anything interesting on it. But go to her MySpace page and listen to the track Out of the Cage.

Vulkan Oslo scenen:

Kleerup (SE) : 21:00

Andreas Kleerup’s last album has been played quite a lot on my stereo. It’s just called Kleerup and is one of the few albums I can listen to its entirety while I’m writing. He brought along quite the group of female Swedish singers for the album, including amongst other Robyn, Lykke Li, Neneh Sherry and Titiyo.
My two favorite track are with Lykke Li and Robyn. Perhaps no shock there.

Kleerup – Until We Bleed [Feat. Lykke Li]

Kleerup – With Every Heartbeat [Feat. Robyn]

Kleerup – Thank You For Nothing

N.A.S.A. (US) : 19:15

When I saw that N.A.S.A was coming, I was first thinking: That can’t be right. But it was, and I’m really excited to hear them in concert. Not be confused with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration by the way. N.A.S.A stands for North America South America, I assume because the two main figures comes from USA and Brazil. Wiki describes N.A.S.A. as a indie hip hop collective, I’m not sure that makes sense(afterthought: ok, maybe it does), but what I know is that they make superb music. Their first album The Spirit of Apollo contains some of the year’s best tracks. The “features” list for the album is just insane! But it also makes me skeptical for the concert. I’m assuming that they don’t bring everyone with them. Expectations from hell? Perhaps… Anyway, the track Gifted is as close to perfect as it can get for its genre.

Nordpolen (SE) : 17:45
Leaving these guys out for now. ;)

Fred Falke

Friday, June 5th, 2009

Frédérick “Fred” Falke is from the glorious country of France. He works now mainly as a producer and a DJ, and formerly worked with Alan Braxe. His remixes are usually good stuff, so I thought I’d post some of his works for you to listen to.

Gossip – Heavy Cross (Fred Falke Remix)

Candice Alley – Falling (Fred Falke Vocal Mix)
Repost, I know. :)
Little Boots – New In Town (Fred Falke Remix)

Grizzly Bear – Two Weeks (Fred Falke Remix)

Hmmm… Veronica Maggio

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

This remix kinda hit me through the blind spot. Veronica Maggio is huge in Sweden, as a mainstream pop artist. Måndagsbarn is from last year and originally sounds like this, in case you get curious:

But this is the good stuff in my opinion.

Veronica Maggio – Måndagsbarn (Le Prix remix)

sayCet

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

For all you sending emails to the music account, please accept my apologies. Many were lost due to a wrong setting, but I fixed it and saved some. One of them was that sayCet has made a remix of Pony Pony Run Run’s Hey You. A song worth mentioning, so here’s the original song in video format. Remix underneath.

But let me say this. sayCet’s remix is amazing!

The perils of producing slightly different items.

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

After my monthly doctor’s appointment, I stopped by a store to pick up breakfast. I’m standing in this boring line, because apparently that’s what required in the morning. So I start scanning the environment for interesting things to read or see. The newspaper front page can only hold so many words when the font is bold and at least 24, so that over and done with rather too quick and I don’t feel like buying them either. So I turn around and that’s when I see all the cards for different occasions, and this one in particular stands out.

It looks like a normal condolence card, but then, on the plastic front, there is this little sticker that couldn’t be more misplaced:

Pocket for money inside.

I’m not sure what sort of message that would send.

As for music, not much going on, as I don’t have time to listen through new albums for the time being. So it’s more of artists I guess all knows.

Ellie Goulding -Starry Eyed (jakwob remix)

Dan Black – Symphonies (passion pit remix)

Marina and the diamonds – Seventeen

And something old, because people might have missed out:

Wintersleep – Weighty Ghost

TGIF

Friday, May 29th, 2009

This got drafted, and now its saturday! Yikes!

Perhaps you are already familiar with TGIF? If not, Thank God Its Friday.

In Norway this is even a long weekend, since Monday is a national holiday. Don’t ask me why, it’s a religious thing.

I guess music for the weekend needs to be upbeat and perhaps possible to dance on a table to.

This topped Hypem the last days, not without reason:

Frankmusik – Confusion Girl (Don Diablo loves to slowdance remix)

I don’t know where I got this. :)
Beni – My Love Sees You (Classixx Remix)
