Vacation and Øyafestivalen over!

Sunday, August 16th, 2009

So, to sum things up. Yey!

Øya was so much fun, I didn’t even mind the rain the last day, because it was the last day(doh), and it’s vacation time again.

The only thing that annoyed me from the very beginning, which meant I had to put it away mentally already on Wednesday, was the quality of the sound. I mean, come on! The Enga stage just had terrible sound, the bass drowned out everything, including vocals. *put it away again*

Røyksopp was at times amazing, in spite of strange stage behavior and some bad song choices. Erol Alkan was brilliant. Beirut was a bit of a letdown. He seemed nervous.

Florence and the machine was perhaps the best concert, if taken into the consideration all the technical problems they had. She’s crazy, or perhaps just high on cocaine, I mean when you go off stage with a nose bleed, what’s a poor audience to think? Her voice is just amazing, also live.

Fever Ray, Bon Iver, Band of Horses, Mew etc. I’m happy!

Will be back next year! :)

Delayed gratification!

TED talks are always good, but the kids in this one are hilarious.

Time…

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

is simply lacking these days… Too much happening, too many things that I would like to do, projects I would like to finish. New music should be coming soon, but between vacations and work, I have prioritized other things.

For all Spotify users and Øya participants, this link should be useful!

Shazam!

Sunday, July 19th, 2009

No, I’m not talking about comics. Shazam is one of the few programs that have managed to impress me immensely lately. Have you ever heard a song and wondered what it was? Seen a commercial and thought “Hey, that song is so cool!”?

Well, Shazam solves the problem. You install it, preferably on a phone, put the microphone close enough to the music, and let it scan. Yes, it works. Not only does it work, it works seemingly perfect! You would expect it to only recognize pop music, but no, it takes everything it seems, including mashups. Haven’t tried it with classical music, but I wouldn’t be surprised.

Check it out here!

The plan about finishing the new floor on my balcony disappeared in a natural shower of way too much water. Summer and rain? Me no like. Vacation in two weeks, that’s not going to hurt.

But if you have to stay inside, then this site will keep you busy for more time than you probably have.

Short review of Oslo Live’s first day!

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

Love it!!! :-)

Lets start with the bad things. First of all, if you can’t sing live, then don’t play live at all. Yes, Nordpolen, I’m talking about you. My ears were hurting.

I think it was wrong by the festival to have N.A.S.A. playing so early, but god damn, nice concert! All my fears about not living up to expectations faded away. Of course, it would be so much cooler to see them(or him, for this evening) indoors, in the dark, with people who actually appreciates their music.

Klaxons was a bit of let down actually. Yes, they played all the songs they should, but somehow they seemed bored of it. When Jamie Reynolds body language says, “Oh well, its this fucking song. Again.” I guess it’s time to take a break.

Then came Kleerup. I love their album, but it’s not the same when you remove most of the vocals. Also, they try to get the audience going AND play the wrong songs. It’s ok to switch between dance and sort-of lounge music sometimes, but not like they did it. It was just plain boring at times. If they had put N.A.S.A in this spot, I think the crowd would have gone ballistic.

Then came 2ManyDJs… They started out at full speed with their remix of Chemical Brothers “Hey Boy, Hey Girl (2ManyDjs, Here We Go!!)” and never slowed down. It was almost perfect. They got the experience, and even thought they deliver a well rehearsed show, it didn’t matter. Gossip, Michael Jackson, David Bowie, Eurytmics, Guns n’Roses, Justice, Bee Gees, the hits just flowed and the crowd loved it. It ended far too early.

Considering it cost 100 NOK, I doubt I’ll get more fun for that amount for the rest of the year!

PS: Passion Pit will play at Parkteateret in September. Tickets available from Saturday!

but not burn it seems. The ISP went on vacation I guess, and the server room got too hot. Well, anyway, I’ll post soon enough, but right now its out in the sun for BBQ!

Hmmm… Veronica Maggio

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

This remix kinda hit me through the blind spot. Veronica Maggio is huge in Sweden, as a mainstream pop artist. Måndagsbarn is from last year and originally sounds like this, in case you get curious:

But this is the good stuff in my opinion.

Not posting in a while! Drought! Or maybe just lack of time…

This site is cool!
